"Asking for help"

I was going through a lot of depression, was drinking excessively to mask my pain. Eventually it caught up to me and I ended up in detox! I’ve never asked for help before I’ve always been the one helping so when I got referred to Dianella I was reluctant, scared and a bit ashamed. I’d fallen into the category of alcoholic! I felt like I was an embarrassment to my family, my kids and myself. 

However I couldn’t have been more wrong, my case worker was so lovely, kind and understanding. I didn’t feel shame or anxious about talking to her, she made me feel comfortable knowing it was the disease of alcohol and depression and trauma that had taken over my life.

I love our catch ups, even if I’m having a bad day she makes me feel normal and that it’s ok. That things can be managed if you break it down into smaller parts.
