"Physiotherapy with Gestational Diabetes"

About: Royal Hospital for Women / Physiotherapy Department

(as a service user),

Diagnosed at 31 weeks and was reluctant to start group physio sessions, thinking it was “too late to start”. Finally started at 37 weeks due to starting maternity leave and having a bit more leeway with time. My only regret is not starting earlier! The environment makes me feel safe and guided to do the right exercises, along with a good variety! It has given me more energy, which is great for being so far along in my pregnancy. I’ve slacked so much in regards to physical exercise during my pregnancy that I convinced myself that going on a random walk is enough/oh, I can’t really do group exercise because I’m pregnant. Going to the classes reevaluated my thinking and have actually reminded me of how I used to enjoy going to gym classes aaaaages ago, before pandemic times.

Dear sotomie

Thank you for sharing your story about exercising after your diagnosis of gestational diabetes. We are so thrilled to hear our new exercise for Gestational Diabetes program at The Royal Hospital for Women has made such an impact on your pregnancy health!

It's so true that it can be really hard to start exercising again, especially as pregnancy progresses. You've done a fabulous job to get back into it, Sky, Julia and the team will be pleased to hear you feel better even in the last few weeks of pregnancy.

Thanks too for sharing your story about the challenges of exercise and pregnancy, it is a really common challenge, no doubt other women can relate and may find your message motivating!

All the best for the rest of your pregnancy, we look forward to seeing you back after the birth!
