"Birth experience"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity Busselton Health Campus / Maternity Unit, Childbirth & Parenting Education

(as the patient),

Recently, my husband and I welcomed our beautiful baby girl, into the world. We were originally planning on birthing at Busselton hospital however our circumstances quickly changed as I became high risk so we were then referred to Bunbury hospital.

We didn’t have a birth plan in place, but we weren't expecting to be high risk and referred to Bunbury. We were hesitant at first as all of our care and appointments had been at Busselton so we almost felt as if we were walking into the unknown- not knowing any of the midwife team or any doctors as everything had been done in Busselton.

Long story short, we wanted to send an email to the midwife and obstetrician team to extend our biggest thankyou’s. The moment we walked into Bunbury for our first initial appointment with Dr Dilum, we left feeling nothing but reassured and at ease knowing that no matter how our baby would be delivered we would be in safe hands. As first time parents and given how quickly our situation changed, we always felt nothing but safe, reassured, at ease and well looked after by everyone.

Baby arrived 3 weeks early but happy and healthy- we couldn’t be any more thankful for that in itself. We then stayed in Bunbury hospital to recover and we were all so well taken care of. I wish I could name every single nurse, doctor, midwife, ICU doctor, theatre staff and orderly who took care of us because each and every single one played such an important part in those few days leading up to her delivery and our recovery afterwards. From the nurses who saw me at my most vulnerable, weather it was taking my first shower post c-section or the midwives who bought hot coffee at 3am because we were up admiring our daughter, we truely thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We hope this is seen and passed onto the amazing staff at Bunbury hospital as this experience has truely left such a special place in our hearts and there is not one day that goes by where we don’t think about you all❤️

Keep up the amazing work! We know it’s not an easy industry to be in and we appreciate you all

We hope to see you all again soon (for good reason!😉)

Warm regards,

The xxxxx Family

Dear yellowkm56,

Thankyou for taking the time to share your birth experience at Bunbury Hospital. I can only imagine the spectrum of emotions that you navigated when you were first advised that you would need to birth at Bunbury.

Bunbury Hospital strives to ensure a seamless journey regardless of which department you utilise, and it sounds as though you involved many of us - theatre, ICU, Nursery, maternity ward. I am incredible pleased that we were all able to support you through this time, providing you and your husband with care and compassion to ensure you felt reassured throughout your journey,

Bunbury Hospital aims to work as a cohesive, respectful team. Each department has their role to play and bring specialty knowledge in the care they provide. It is a risk that we each work in a silo, forgetting that we have consumers that move across from one area to another. I am grateful to receive your feedback demonstrating that we provided a positive experience along your, and your daughters, healthcare journey.

I will forward your kind words to all the departments involved in your care, and I know that they will be grateful to receive your acknowledgment and all pleased that you and your daughter are recovering well.

I wish you, your husband and your daughter all the best as you settle into home routine - if there is such a thing as routine when referring to a newborn. And I look forward to seeing you again in the future,(for good reason). Although we won't take it personally if your next pregnancy and birth doesn't have the same change in pathway and you are able to birth in Busselton:-).

Kind regards,

Katrina Jones
