I was transferred from another hospital because my health was deteriorating very quickly after an 4 hour surgery and that other hospital was not equipped to deal with it.
So at 4am the next morning the ambulance and paramedics transferred me to the Resuscitation Unit at St. George Public Hospital. You know you are not well when they take you there.
What happened next amazed me even if I couldn’t put it into words at the time. Despite the hour, St George Public organised a respiratory team, a surgical team and a pain team to deal with me. Scans and blood tests were rapidly performed and I was treated very effectively. The communication and follow up by all teams , was continued over a weekend and into the next week. My pain was very well controlled and the complexities and complications that could otherwise cause setbacks were also dealt with .
You know the doctors care when following a successful bowel movement, yes these things are important indicators, a surgical team lead doctor did a celebratory dance. Nobody wants to be where I was in regards my health condition on entry. But after five days of excellent treatment I was grateful that i was at St George under the care of the extended team who treated me with the urgency, skill and empathy needed .
"Excellent care at St George Public Hospital"
