"Unplanned admission to ASU"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department Bunbury Hospital / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I have just completed a 12 day admission to ASU after breaking my leg. I cannot fault the care I received from all the staff at BRH including ED staff which supported me through administering a neurolept, Apex staff, the otho team, PCAs, PSAs,  housekeeping and allied health.

Everyone I saw had a job to do and they did it well. I would particularly commend the NSG on Surgical Ward given the challenges faced in the ASU  - 4 beds to a room  - with at times very unwell patients. I observed excellent care given in a timely and compassionate manner. I also wish to acknowledge Marlene who supported me after a very unpleasant experience and thank her for her advocacy.

My only issue is the rescinding of the IHP that was initially approved. As I left hospital a day after the surgery this has meant I have been a great burden. This situation was not ideal and I believe could have been avoided

Dear Widow67,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent experience. I am so glad you found the care you received faultless.

Marlene is a fantastic clinical leader on the ASU/Surgical Ward. I have passed on your comments and her response was 'it's my pleasure'.

I would be happy to look into the issues you had with the IHP, if you feel it necessary. I am hoping that the situation has resolved, but if you feel you need more support at home, I am happy to look into what is available.

I can be contacted on 08 9722 1319 or email ellen.kenevin@health.wa.gov.au

Once again thank you. As Marlene said, it was our pleasure to look after you and I wish you well on your continued recovery.

Warm regards,

Ellen
