"Maternity ward"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Antenatal Clinic, Birth Suite, Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit, Wards 3B, 3C, 3D, 3DO, Visiting Midwife Service

(as the patient),

We arrived at fiona stanley maternity ward for a induction in the morning recently being our first baby we were quite excited to finally see our first born. From that time we didn't know it was going to be the Worst experience of our lives

We felt the midwife of the morning had a very cold attitude first they put the Trace on and we didn't see anyone after that for about a good hour and half no head popping in to see how everything was going or if my partner needed anything

After another good hour she finally gets seen for a exam she ended up being 3cm so we were told she's ready for to be put into labour ward, we were excited but then been stood down saying oh there is (no beds) you have to wait

By a few hours with no updates my partner was feeling stressed in no way of going into labour, same again no midwife to see how she is doing. We saw one come in and we requested if we could go home and be in our comfy environment to help her go into labour naturally the straight answer was no! We got told to just go for a walk and when there's a bed we will call you but do not leave the hospital with bumping into one of the FSH staff members who been seeing us since my partner became pregnant we told her our problem and got it sorted we went home for the night

Prior going home that afternoon i had to go pick up my partners hospital bag, I felt the midwife gave me the worst coldest look basically say keep your phones on you then we will call you when there's a room around 7pm that night we get a call for my partner to come back in cause she might (get lost) in the system

Next morning me and my partner went back to FSH she got seen in the morning for another trace for 30 minutes after that she wasn't seen, like she was, we felt, locked into a room with the key thrown away while everyone else on the ward was getting the attention. She was mentioned at midday there was a bed in the labour ward (Shortly) i do believe that term means within 5-10 minutes

It was nearly evening and still no idea so i was started to get a-bit annoyed same again, no midwife popping in and at that time no midwife on the ward to talk too so i rang the Aishwarya’s CARE Call as we were getting no help. My partner being very keen to have our first baby by after being there for 8 hours she was in no way of giving birth, very tired her feet very swollen and her mental health was making her very stressed.

Within 2-3 minutes i hear a door slam open from labour ward then our curtain was open very abruptly it was a senior staff member (i do know your name but i am not going to say it) they first started going off at my partner then my partner said to them i did not make the phone call then they turned to me and started saying on how many babys they've delivered today we told them our situation on how no one has cared for my partner, i recall they then gave me another rude answer about why don't you just withdraw from inducing and also asked why did we request a inducing (at this time my partner started to cry) Then this cold hearted, I felt, midwife said oh we will have a room for you in the next 30 minutes then walked off shut the curtain very abruptly

By then we decided to just go to another hospital and withdraw from the whole hospital to have our baby, but magically within 5 minutes they asked us if we wanted the room in the labour ward by now we have said no as our experience by now is we have decided to go to another hospital but they asked us to stay put for 5 minutes to talk with the doctor (nearly 30 -45minutes later) they now telling us there is a room available and apologising about our experience we had and ask if we wanted to induce now

By now we said no as I believe the induction side of FSH is a joke we will be not coming back as we believe you basically wasted our time we have decided to go to another hospital.

Dear Mn95,

I'm so sorry to hear about you and your partner’s experience during what should be an exciting time in your lives.

It's understandable that you felt neglected and unsupported, given the lack of communication and care from the staff. It's clear that this situation doesn't align with our commitment to providing exceptional, patient-centred care, and it's not reflective of the values we thrive for.

As Care Opinion is an anonymous platform, I invite you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service on 6152 4013 during business hours or via email FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au with your information to allow us to investigate this further and provide a formal response.

Kind regards,

Luke Dix

A/Executive Director
