About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My relative went to emergency department.

Possibly to self harm to be told it was a 5 hour wait. 

They left.

At 8.30 they were beside themself so I took them back to find out it would be a 9 hour wait. Not happy.

I rang emergency and expressed my concern that my relative needs to see someone before they does something to themself that I will hold the hospital accountable for if something happens.

Still could not get a direct answer.

Which is appalling in my opinion.

I am sorry to hear about the delays your relative experienced in accessing care when attending the Fiona Stanley Hospital Emergency Department (ED). I appreciate that this would have been distressing for your relative and yourself. The ED has been experiencing very high numbers of presentations and access block for those needing an inpatient bed. This has meant that the most unwell patients are prioritised resulting in very long wait times for others. The ED does have nurses based in the waiting room 24/7 to provide assistance to patients or escalate care for those who are deteriorating.

It is difficult to comment on what was happening in the ED on the day your relative presented.
