I experienced the sudden onset of abdominal pain and had to go to the ED. I was triaged almost immediately, and although much of the past 7 days is a blur, I know I was in the right place, being looked after the right people. I want to express my complete admiration for the staff of the ED and medical imaging, departments who were more caring and efficient that I could have asked for. I was out of there and on the surgical ward in what seemed like no time at all. I want them all to know I'm grateful and thankful.
I also want to give a really big vote of thanks to all the people who work in the surgical ward at BH. The team is amazing - from nurses to allied health, PCAs admin staff and doctors, I was in awe of their workload and their attitude (fantastic). I can't remember everyone's names, and I don't want to minimise my thanks by naming a whole lot of people and leaving some out, so I'll just mention two who were there at the most critical times for me. I want to sincerely thank Dr Amyn, who was my surgeon. People probably forget that the kinds of conditions, that require his expertise routinely killed people in the past. Having such skilled surgeons work in our region, and being able to attract such high quality doctors who then who train up the next generation is fantastic.
The surgical ward looks to be under the pump, and the nursing staff have to look after a lot of complex patients, and they never stop. I wish to mention the nurse who was on for my two hardest nights, Kira, Her compassion and skill was amazing.
ICU doctors came to liaise as did the pain team. They were equally fantastic teams.
Allied health, allied health assistants (dieticians/physios) came every day- everyone so kind and helpful.
The PCAs, were very kind and cheery, whether wheeling you somewhere or bringing the meals. The cleaning staff were always friendly and meticulous.
IMHO the SW Community should be very proud of their local hospital. I've lived in three states and am not a spring chicken, I've have had lots of hospital experiences with my family and relatives over the years, not necessarily in WA and the 'feel' of the hospital on the wards, you don't get everywhere, in my experience. Bunbury Hospital is a great hospital because it's filled with great staff. I was discharged today. I might even miss the hospital food :-)
Thank you.
