"Emergency hospital wait times"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

While I understand that the Emergency Department is for Emergencies, I believe there is times where it should not be treated like a circus or people walking out because of the 10hr wait time.  During my 6hr wait I witnessed 5 people leave voluntarily, 4 people be a nuisance even though warnings had been given, several elderly people left in the waiting room that I feel shouldn't have been there.

Like many others I too as left untreated and was given the "yep i will give you those meds now" (yeah that didn't happen). My webster pack containing my prescribed medications from my gp wasn't given until i was about to leave. Completely dangerous in my opinion!

I believe the system is broken, Name ID should be given when you go through the first patient registration process and chairs should be a different colour for each section to stop triage confusion.

Messy and dangerous.

Dear anon223,

I am sorry to hear about the difficult and frustrating experience you have had with the emergency department. It sounds like you were not only dealing with your own health concerns but also an environment that felt disjointed. The long wait times, confusion and lack of attention would certainly contribute to an already stressful situation.

Fiona Stanley Hospital considers our patients safety and comfort as an important part of the hospital journey. We are aware of the long wait periods and are consistently looking for ways to reduce the timing. Waiting periods within the emergency department are prioritised according to our triage assessment to ensure life threating and high-risk patients are attended to with urgency. Emergency Departments become overcrowded when hospital ward beds are under heavy demand.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns. Your feedback can make a difference in improving our services.

Kind Regards,

Luke Dix

A/Executive Director
