Going into our second birth, my husband and I were hoping to attempt a VBAC, after requiring a caesarean for our first son, who was footling breech. From our first phone call, our midwife Chloe was excited and supportive, and gave us great confidence that this was a good plan and we could totally attempt a VBAC safely under her care.
Throughout the pregnancy, having the continuity of care with Chloe and her buddy midwives Kailey and Emma made us feel supported and well informed. Chloe accompanied us to appointments with doctors, and gave us lots of her time to make sure we understood all that attempting a VBAC would entail. Everyone we saw at KEMH was supportive of our plans and ensured that we were fully informed going into the birth.
During the labour and birth itself we were priveleged to be cared for by Chloe, Emma, and Kailey, as their work hours allowed. These three were an absolute dream team, and gave my husband and I such a sense of confidence and calmness, despite the labour progressing slowly and the idea of another caesarean being brought up at the last minute. With their quiet and professional support, and with constant monitoring, we achieved a safe and successful VBAC for our second son in the water.
The post natal care we've received in the days after the birth has continued to be excellent. We've enjoyed being able to debrief with each of our midwives, and it really feels like they approach their care of mums and babies as more than just a job.
We will forever be thankful for our experience with MGP, and with Chloe, Emma, and Kailey. We're hoping they will all be around for our next birth!
