Lack of communication from the hospital over our parent’s twelve day admission left the family feeling helpless, scared, ignored, de valued.
Countless face to face and phone call requests for contact from the consultants and repeated requests for family meetings were acknowledged but then not followed through.
Doubt by the hospital staff was cast over who was a next of kin, an apparent disregard for request to contact our parent's kidney specialist and administer kidney medication seemed to be dismissed.
The lack of communication then lead to the family not having a chance to say our final goodbye. When we finally got a phone call from the hospital our parent was in the final stages of death and we accidentally found out that the hospital had apparently been administering palliative care without our knowledge.
