It was at the humble Myrtleford Hospital. I had a quinsy on my tonsil. Before that, I had pneumonia at one stage, and I got the quinsy months later.
Everything was good. The staff were fantastic. The local doctors at Sandy Street Surgery were fantastic—basically, everything was good. The food was food—hospital food will never be as good, especially since I come from an Italian background—but it was wonderful, really, really good.
Dr. Shannon and Dr. James were lovely, caring doctors. The nurses—I can’t remember their names, unfortunately—were all wonderful. I can’t speak highly enough of the services. Dr. Shannon was absolutely wonderful.
I believe this hospital has a lot to offer. I stayed at Bright a few years ago and I believe Wangaratta used to go there for some operations but unfortunately, that’s closing down now due to funding. Myrtleford Hospital has a theatre, and I’d be keen if they could get it relicensed. If there are any comments or suggestions for improvements, I’d love for that to be a possibility—for minor surgeries to be done at Myrtleford Hospital.
My son was born there 30 years ago, and the operating theatre might not be being used. So rebirth the surgical room so doctors can do the little bits there instead of people clogging up Wangaratta—people like myself for hernia surgery.
But look, I just can’t speak highly enough of the service I received. They deserve accolades. From my experience, I don’t think anyone would have a bad experience. Like I said, there are some lovely nurses there.
"They deserve accolades"
