"Bedside manners"

About: St George Hospital / 3 West Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I feel that the orthopedic doctor I have been seeing has no general manners or care. They just bust into the room without knocking, seemingly doesn't update nurses on what is going on at all and has left me with my broken ankle having tremors on the bed and wouldn't even sit my foot back in the backslab for support at my request.

I think they are a rude person and needs to at the very least learn a bit of compassion and manners.

Other than that all the nurses I have seen have been amazing and caring.

Dear jupiterwg49

Thank you for reaching out to share your recent experience at St George Hospital on 3 West Orthopaedic Ward.

I am sorry to hear your experience with one of our Orthopaedic doctors. Professionalism and respect are core values at St George Hospital, and this reported manner does not align with the high standard that St George Hospital strives to achieve. I wish to express my sincere apologies for the interaction you experienced with our surgeon on this particular day. We will discuss your experience with the Senior Medical Lead of Surgery to improve the delivery of health care services in our hospital.

We appreciate the feedback regarding your experience and recognise how important clear and effective communication between health professionals is when delivering care to our patients, and I regret that we fell short of your expectations in this instance. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please feel free to contact our Patient Experience Manager on (02) 9113-2687 or email SESLHD-STG-ConsumerFeedback@health.nsw.gov.au

I am heartened to hear that the nurses who cared for you have been amazing and caring. We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and caring nurses working at St George Hospital who are committed to providing world class health care to patients and their families. I have forwarded your kind-hearted feedback to the Nurse Unit Manager and the Director of Nursing and Midwifery to share with the nursing staff.

We are committed to making the necessary improvements to ensure a more positive experience for our patients and their families, and I appreciate you taking the time to bring your concerns and accolades to our attention.

Sincerely,

Samantha Martin
