"Stay at the health campus"

About: Albany Health Campus / Emergency Department Albany Health Campus / Fracture Clinic Albany Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Albany Health Campus' Emergency Department in October this year, after falling and sustaining a comminuted distal tib-fib fracture.

I had emergency external fixation surgery that evening, followed by ORIF five days later. Kellie, my theatre nurse for my first surgery, held my hand and provided comfort and compassion in the lead-up.

The nurses and doctors were considerate of my pain and anxiety. In the Surgery Ward, Kate, who was one of my overnight nurses, talked me through my first bedpan experience with kindness and humour. Drs Craig  and Holly were superstars at keeping me informed on decision making for my fracture and what to expect.

My last night was spent in the Maternity Ward, and Lou took excellent care of me before I was discharged the next day.

After a new cast was placed, I had some significant discomfort, and returned to ED, where a new cast was placed by the adept and experienced hands of Amanda, who talked me through how to best position my foot.

Since then, I have seen Drs Jen and Russell at the Fracture Clinic, and Joel in Physiotherapy, and have continued to receive excellent care. I've never felt rushed in any my appointments, and as I usually have accumulated a list of questions before each appointment, the staff have taken the time to address my queries and concerns.

With an evidently heavy caseload being managed by the staff, my partner and I have been pleasantly surprised to be treated with such warmth and patience at every visit, especially through all the managed chaos of the Emergency Department and Fracture Clinic.  You are all rock stars. Thank you so much.

Dear squeezjoos,

Thank you for sharing your experiences across various departments at Albany Health Campus. I am truly impressed by your positive response to the care you received. It is wonderful to hear about your journey through the hospital and towards recovery. I will make sure your feedback is passed on to those you mentioned, as well as the teams throughout the campus. Knowing that our teams were patient and took the time to listen is excellent. I will let them know you think they are “rock stars”. This type of feedback is incredibly important to both our teams and individuals who work to support people on their recovery journeys.

Kind regards

Kate Hambleton
