"Treatment in the ED"

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Arrived at the ED department recently. Waited around 1.5 hours seen the doctor as I had very bad heal pain for around eight weeks.

I couldn’t take much more. Was sent home and referred for an xray two days later.

Had the xray was told to go to Ed for results. Arrived at the Ed on the same day, sat in the waiting room for 4 hrs to be told no brake but come back tomorrow for an ultrasound. And come back to Ed for results. This whole conversation took less than 5 mins. When asked about pain relief I was told keep taking Panadol and nursing.

I have been doing this for the past 8 weeks and the reason I went to Ed was because it was now unbearable.

Might have a nice new ED but I feel the service is not great

Dear izaryz68,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent visits to our Emergency Department (ED). I want to sincerely apologize for the frustration and discomfort you experienced during what was clearly a difficult time for you.

I understand how challenging it must have been to manage your pain for eight weeks, only to face extended waiting times and multiple visits without immediate relief or resolution. While we strive to provide timely and effective care, I acknowledge that in this instance, the process left you feeling unsupported, and for that, I am truly sorry.

Your feedback about the delays in diagnostic results and the lack of adequate pain relief highlights important areas for improvement. Pain management and communication are critical components of the care we provide, and I regret that we did not meet your expectations in this regard.

We would be keen to investigate your experience further internally. Could you please contact Jackie Ingwersen, Consumer consultant, Quality experience safety department at feedback@shdh.org.au and provide us your contact details and permission to review clinical records.
