"Wonderful experience at emergency then ENT ward"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Emergency Department Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / ENT

(as a relative),

After two days of trying to seek care for my partner via ambulance and at two other hospital emergency departments (never seen). We then sort care at urgent Dr and he diagnosed Quincies and restricted airway and instructed us to return to ED immediately (we returned to local ED and were not seen again despite diagnosis). So we drove 30 minutes to Charlie's ED. We entered Charlie's ED and sat down.

A Nurse looked at my partner as soon as we sat down, quickly recognising my partner was in pain and lacking oxygen. I recall she turned to me and said that man needs a Dr. I said yes he does as an urgent care Dr has just diagnosed him with Quincies and restricted airway. She immediately jumped into action realising that he was in immediate danger of his tongue further swelling and also at high risk of sepsis. She got him a wheelchair, quickly triaged and into ED.

20 minutes later I came back into ED after filling out paperwork and parking my car. He had been seen by emergency Dr Hayden and had been given antibiotics, fluids and pain relief. Dr Hayden was kind, validated our  experience, explained the process and reassured us that we were in the right place and were going to get care promptly. 30 minutes later we were seen by ENT and treated again with kindness, high level of skill, efficiency and compassion. Later he was admitted into ENT ward for two nights.

In that two day stay we experienced Doctors, Nurses, surgeons, orderly's and  patient assistants that explained everything to us, were happy, compassionate, caring and efficient. Every hospital in Perth should be like this one. I believe we shouldn't have to drive 45 minutes from our home to receive urgent care when we have an emergency department 20 minutes away. We thankyou all from the bottom of our hearts.
