"Very grateful!"

About: Bunbury Hospital Busselton Health Campus King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre Osborne Park Hospital / Maternity care Perth Children's Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

I am so grateful for the incredible care that we have received from so many health services during my perinatal period.

We had planned to have our baby at the Family Birth Centre and had our antenatal care with the beautiful Clare, who helped me navigate the many decisions with unbiased and evidence based information.

Our little boy unexpectedly decided to come early at 33 weeks whilst we were on holiday in the south west. The midwives, obstetricians and paramedics that cared for us at Busselton and Bunbury hospital were all so kind, reassuring and communicative in a stressful situation! After a few delays with the RFDS experiencing a busy night, we were transferred via ambulance to KEMH. Arriving at KEMH I knew I was in the right place for my preterm baby to be born in the safest of hands. My wonderful midwives from the Family Birth Centre, Clare and Chelsea, made my birth room a replica of the birth centre’s dark, homely and cosy environment so my labour progressed quickly without any interventions. I felt so safe and supported, I never once felt scared or worried about my baby. The paediatricians listened to my requests for delayed cord clamping and gave me as much skin to skin with my baby as possible, before transferring him to NICU. All the NICU nurses cared for my baby with such care and compassion, I left the nursery each night knowing he was so well looked after. The neonatology team were wonderful at including us in the daily rounds and keeping us updated, and I received such kindness and empathy from Dr Mary that I will remember forever.

Our baby finished his journey at the nursery at OPH, where most days he had two nurses or midwives to himself! Big thank you to Sharon and Anne for getting us home so quickly! Our breastfeeding journey was supported every step of the way- thank you to the midwives on the postnatal ward, amazing lactation consultants in NICU and especially the KEMH physiotherapy team who got me through some tough weeks of engorgement!

We are so incredibly lucky to have these health services (and for free)! Being a nurse and midwife myself working for WA health for the last 10 years, I couldn’t be prouder of the amazing care we deliver to people every day!

Dear likeablejq54

Thank you for sharing your beautiful story, and congratulations on the birth of your little boy! Your story is truly heartwarming and a testament to the incredible dedication and compassion of healthcare professionals. It sounds like you had an amazing team supporting you and your baby every step of the way. Clare, Chelsea, and the entire team at Busselton, Bunbury, KEMH, and OPH clearly went above and beyond to ensure you felt safe, supported, and well-informed during such a critical time. We have forwarded your appreciation to the Nicu team, and they are sure to respond to your story.

It's wonderful to hear that your breastfeeding journey was also well-supported, and that you received such comprehensive care from the midwives, lactation consultants, and physiotherapy team. Your gratitude and pride in the healthcare system are palpable, and it's clear that your experience has been profoundly positive.

As a nurse and midwife, yourself, your appreciation for the care you received must be even more meaningful. We’ll be sure to pass on your heartfelt gratitude to Clare and Chelsea and the entire team that supported you during your perinatal period.

Warm regards,

Barbara
