"Birth of our beautiful boy"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

We applied with the KEMH Family Birth Centre for the birth of our beautiful baby boy and could not rate higher about our experience.

Hoping to give him the best start to life, we chose to go via the FBC under midwifery continuity for a very natural approach. Unfortunately, at 41+6 we needed to be induced and that led to the “cascade of interventions” including epidural and ending in non-elective caesarean section, however we knew this was the best choice to bring our little guy safely into the world.

Although it was as far from our “birth plan” as we possibly imagined, we couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible team that supported us. In particular our beautiful midwife Emma R at FBC - Emma you were such a huge part of our pregnancy journey. Your knowledge, guidance, professionalism, encouragement, patience, humor, kindness and understanding truly meant the world to us, you are such a blessing to the industry and we can’t thank you enough for playing advocate for us at every moment. Our baby was so lucky to have you there when he entered the world and we will cherish that memory with you always!

A big shout out as well to the wonderful midwives at KEMH in the postpartum ward that were all so kind and patient while we recovered after surgery. Everyone always took the time to offer the support we needed when we needed. In such a chaotic time, they really made all the difference to our family!

The only very minor complaint we had was the fan in our room did not work and it was quite a warm weekend to be without fresh air.

A huge thank you again to all for helping with the safe delivery of our little guy.

Dear riverty64

Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy! It sounds like you had quite a journey, and it's wonderful to hear how supportive and caring the team at King Edward Memorial Hospital - Family Birth Centre was throughout your experience.

Emma R and the other midwives clearly made a significant impact, providing the knowledge, guidance, and compassion you needed during such an important time. It's heartwarming to know that despite the unexpected changes to your birth plan, you felt well-supported and cared for.

It's also great that you took the time to acknowledge the postpartum ward staff for their kindness and patience. I was very sorry to hear about the non-working fan, which can be frustrating, especially during a warm weekend.

Wishing you and your family all the best as you embark on this new chapter with your little one!

Kind regards

Barbara
