My 92 year old Mum was taken to RPH last Saturday morning from her Residential Care facility. She was very ill. The ED doctor, Ian, rang me. He told me about her health and that she probably would pass very soon. He wanted to let me know so I could try and be by her side. He was ssooo kind to me. He rang me again and this time he took the time to discuss with me what was the best thing for Mum. He listened patiently to me while I explained what Mum had told me before her dementia got really bad. She had had a good life and was ready to pass. Ian was so lovely and supportive to me as I shared this information. It was decided that she would be put on morphine to take away any pain and discomfort she might be feeling. When I arrived at the hospital, Ian had finished his shift. I sat with Mum. Nurses Sam and Bradley spoke to me and made sure I was okay. They were very kind.
When Mum passed a few hours later. Bradley sat with me for a little while. Sam asked me if I needed anything. Bereavement support etc. Even the meals lady gave me a hug. Although it was a very sad time, the RPH staff were so amazing and I will never forget their kindness and support. Thank you
