After an unfortunate mountain biking accident, I was taken straight through to Karratha ED. Upon arrival, I was taken straight into the hospital and dealt with by the most caring and attentive team, in my opinion. They treated my immediate issues promptly, then and took time to work out exactly what needed to be done next. I had no wait for CT scans or x-rays, and every single person I came into contact with at the facility was kind, caring and made me feel at ease. Their treatment was first class, and I felt like they wanted to do their utmost to make me feel better; crucially: that I mattered!
I was given clear expectations of what they could and couldn't treat, and then what would happen next. Never underestimate the comfort that comes from clear communication in that situation. I enjoyed a relatively comfortable night under the care of the night shift who were constantly making sure any pain I had was kept under control.
Reading the above may sound exactly what you'd expect from treatment in a hospital but unfortunately my experiences elsewhere haven't proven to be this positive. The following day, I was smoothly transferred - all via the support of Karratha ED - to a metropolitan hospital via commercial air. From this point onwards, the quality of my care become a different story.
The focus of telling this story though, is to champion the experience I had with the team at Karratha. Despite being referred for plastic surgery outside the hospital, Dr Tim at Karratha had done such a good job stitching my wounds up that I didn't actually require surgery.
I cannot thank the team enough for the care I received at Karratha.
