On arrival at reception at Box Hill hospital for my prostrate specific PET/CT imaging scan on the ground floor, (even ,that I was very early for my appointment) they excepted my paper work very professionally.
From Dee in the office ,nurse Amy who had a very cheerful attitude which quickly made me feel very comfortable and relaxed ( as this was my first stage of my journey hopefully recovering from cancer).
Nurse Amy quickly checked all my vitals and prepared me for the next stage.
When nurse Amy had completed preparing me for the nuclear medical team.
Ellie and Travis from the nuclear medical team introduced themselves as I was now in the final stage of preparation for the PET/CT scan.
Before entering the radio active room for the scan,Travis came to me and was very thorough in explaining the procedure I was going through.
Explaining that the tracer was made in Melbourne (nice to know we can still make things in Australia) and is at the cutting edge of medical science.
He was also very clear that he needed my approval to proceed as this 18F-DCFPyL has not been approved (only by SAS approval ) in Australia by the TGA ,but has been used overseas without any known risks.
Later, after the radio active trace was injected into my arm there was a short wait until the tracer flowed throughout my body ,I believe high lighting the areas of the said prostrate cancer.
Ellie took me to the machine where she assisted me for the scan.
Which seemed to be over so quick.
There is no pain in this procedure to anyone who may travel this road.
To Box Hill hospital and everyone that helped me today, I have a deep respect for you all as I believe you are very unappreciated by our Politicians of this country for the hard and difficult work you do.
All I can say is a VERY BIG THANK YOU and wish all of you, that helped me, a successful future.
