Recently I attended ED at BRH with my partner who was experiencing irregular heart beats. From arrival in reception to discharge each staff member we encountered ( both night duty and oncoming day shift) was efficient, professional and caring. From the day shift ED clerk, PCAs who were cleaning and stocking the cubicles, nurses and doctors. We were kept fully informed throughout our ED journey.
The one negative from this experience was the lack of visibility and communication available to ED from a private hospital's specialist services. My partner had been seen by Cardiology at the private hospital a number of times but this information was not available to ED staff. If patients are being seen by multiple services then I believe the information should be visible to all treating teams. I feel this has to be in the best interest of the patient to ensure continuity and reduce risk surely?
Special mention goes to Dr Tariq in ED. I thought his bedside manner was second to none. Despite a busy ED he was calm, reassuring and professional. He took the time to explain diagnosis ,treatment plan and follow up.
We left ED within 4 hours and felt fully reassured and that we had received excellent care.
I believe we are lucky to have such a great Emergency Department in Bunbury.
Well done to you all.
