During both of my pregnancies I was supported by midwives within the Midwifery Group Practice.
Having a consistent midwife throughout my pregnancy meant that we could build a relationship and I had someone who knew me, my family, and my preferences when it came to giving birth. I felt incredibly supported, listened to, and understood in my choices and when it came to my birth "plan". This could not have been accomplished without having an ongoing relationship.
Additional to the amazing support during pregnancy and birth, the follow-up support for close to 10 days was incredible. Daily check ins meant that if there was any concerns I knew I would be speaking to someone and able to ask questions without having to give a full history to new healthcare providers.
Having consistent support and someone I actually knew, and who knew me, be present and facilitate the birth of my daughter made all the difference when things got tough.
My partner and I are so grateful to our midwife for everything she did in supporting the birth of our daughter. She even inspired the name we gave baby girl Emma.
