I have delivered 3 babies in Esperance Hospital, 2 of them during covid restrictions and my final one without the restrictions. Throughout all of my births the midwives were able to support me without intervening unless they felt it necessary for the baby. There expert level of care made me feel safe and confident in my births to deliver without any intervention at my choice. Thank you always to the incredible midwives!
My third birth was a documented water birth and after experiencing that I can now say that it was my favourite birth by far. I believe the baths in the hospital need to be upgraded with a birthing pool as an option. Based on my experience, the current baths do not provide the birthing mother enough room to comfortably move through positions if she desires and the space is difficult/awkward for the midwives to have good access to areas they might need.
I encourage the managers to upgrade or provide the option of a birthing pool to the hospital which I feel would help birthing mothers have a lower risk option for mother and baby to birth at a hospital rather than at home with a private doula who can provide a more comfortable water birth experience with a birthing pool. I believe this would be a huge advantage to the hospital and expecting mothers and reduce the safety risk for both mum and baby.
