"Birthing with the MGP at King Eddie's"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

We had the most wonderful experience welcoming our daughter into the world through the MGP service at King Eddie’s. All the staff we saw in the MGP service were consistently welcoming, knowledgeable and reassuring throughout our period of care with them, including our primary midwife, Elly, who was truly exceptional.

Elly has a beautiful warm, bubbly and confident personality, which helped to calm our nerves and anxiety as a first-time parents as soon as we met her. It was obvious how passionate and skilled she is with her work too.

She always made us feel very informed about our progress and care options, and was always happy to answer our questions or explain things as many times as we needed for information to sink in.

Getting to see her at each appointment during the final trimester of our pregnancy was fantastic, as it gave us an opportunity to get to know each other well and quite quickly too. We credit this relationship with making our journey, particularly the labour and my baby's birth, such a positive experience.

My husband and I felt so comfortable with Elly and like we couldn’t be in safer hands. And we weren’t wrong! She was a truly fantastic support and advocate for all three of us (Mum, Dad and Bub) during the delivery – from bringing her own fairy lights to create a calming atmosphere, to offering soothing and encouraging words when the pain began to increase quickly, to remaining level headed and being able to see trends in our vital signs that meant we could avoid more intervention than necessary for the birth. Similarly, Elly also provided us with absolutely amazing care once we had returned home. Again, having an established relationship was wonderful as Elly knew how to tailor her care for us to suit our level of experience and confidence with parenting and the physical recovery from the birth. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her!

Based on our experience, we honestly couldn’t recommend the MGP service more highly. It, along with all of the staff we saw at the MGP and the ward (who were also brilliant and incredibly helpful during our overnight stay), are a credit to King Eddie’s and a genuine lifeline for first-time parents in particular.

Dear maisymae92

Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl!

Your experience with the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) at King Edward Memorial Hospital sounds absolutely wonderful! It’s clear that Elly and the rest of the staff provided exceptional care and support throughout your journey. Elly’s warm and confident personality, along with her dedication and skill, has clearly had a significant impact on your experience, especially as first-time parents. The personal touches, like bringing fairy lights and offering soothing words, show how much she cared about creating a positive and calming environment for you. It’s also fantastic that she was able to tailor her care to your needs both during and after the birth, ensuring you felt supported and informed every step of the way.
