I was travelling through WA (from Victoria) when I had a sudden onset of back pain and couldn’t walk. We drive to Margaret River Hospital as I was in agony.
From the moment I arrived the staff were fantastic. The admin staff doing a wheelchair so I could come in. After triage I only waited approx 15 mins before I was called in. The nursing staff were very empathetic as was my doctor. Without MRI I couldn’t be diagnosed but was suspected cauda equina. They arranged transfer for me to go to Bunbury. During the wait my pain was looked after and I was informed of everything and involved in my care. I went on to be transferred to Sir Charles Gairdner hospital for emergency surgery on my spine. The doctor had originally tried to get me flown to Charlie’s but it didn’t pan out.
I’m very thankful of how caring and supportive the staff were. It was a pretty scary time for me and extremely painful. My husband and daughter were kept up to date with what was happening and I felt very safe.
