My mother in law (MIL) was taken to SCGH, Floor 7 after an urgent trip to ED. Her care since has been nothing short of incredible.
I need to put out to the world how amazing the staff have been to her and her family, who have been in there every day as well.
I work for WACHS so have a special appreciation of what’s involved in someone’s care and how hard you work.
To the doctors who took the time to give us information in layman’s terms, answer all the questions (even when they were obviously busy) with patience and treat my MIL with the utmost kindness and respect. Special mention to Dr Z who came back especially to write out a medical cert for my daughter to support her exam deferment.
To the palliative team who were so kind, friendly and very professional. (Cass especially) Thankyou.
To the nurses who went the extra mile, who had a laugh with us (and it was needed), put up with having to crawl around us in the room to get their job done, and all with a smile. All the nurses were incredible but special mentions to Celina and Charlotte and the nurse who engaged my MIL with her shared love of gardening and roses (I can’t remember your name, I’m so sorry)
To the AIN’s, the often forgotten ones. What a job you guys do. Special mention to Ben who made my daughter feel comfortable in a situation she’d never been in before, by helping her if she needed it and sharing a laugh while she was looking after her Gran. (The rest of the family was still converging from all over the state)
To the quiet achievers. The cleaners, the cooks, the gardeners, the clerks, the maintenance crew, without you the place would collapse. In the time we were there we watched what you do and you are truly appreciated.
To the pathologists, the pharmacists, the radiologists, etc. Never seen but we know you’re there, working behind the scenes to get things done.
To the Nurse Managers/Floor Managers? I don’t envy you your job. To keep things running like a well oiled machine is a massive task. But you do it so well.
Could this please be relayed to the Floor 7 staff and to the people mentioned in particular. There is not much scarier than the situation we found ourselves in, but every staff member we had contact with made the MIL and us feel very safe. And the importance of that feeling can’t be over stated in times like that.
Without you all my family would be in a much different position right now. We’ll never forget your professionalism, your respect, your friendliness and your kindness.
From the clan in room 11.
