"Birth at the Health Campus"

About: Albany Health Campus / Maternity Ward

(as a service user),

I am providing positive feedback to acknowledge the kindness and compassion showed to our family during a profoundly significant time in our lives by Albany Heath Campus (AHC) Maternity Unit. The birth of our daughter brought us immense joy, yet we were also navigating the grief of losing our beloved pet, who was diagnosed with a terminal illness and passed away during this time.

The AHC Maternity team’s dedication to ensuring our well-being was evident in every interaction. The extensive time they devoted to assisting us with establishing breastfeeding during our admission, addressing our concerns after the premature rupture of membranes and we were unable to birth at SJOG Murdoch as planned, and conducting a post-birth debriefing near the end of our admission made a significant difference in our experience. Revisiting the birthing suite to help us process our feelings around birth trauma was invaluable. The support during such a challenging time made us feel heard and cared for, and for that, we are truly grateful.

We will never forget the empathy demonstrated by staff in also allowing us to be present for our pet's final moments on a short leave from hospital and all checking in on how he was going throughout our admission.

The professionalism and compassion exhibited by each staff member in our opinion aligned with the mission of the Department of Health WA Country Health Service (WACHS) to deliver and advance high-quality care for country communities. The commitment shown to providing safe, patient-centred care—ensuring that the needs of patients are at the core of everything you do—is evident, and the midwives behaviour truly reflects the WACHS values of compassion, quality, and integrity.

The Albany community is fortunate to have such dedicated and capable midwives at AH Maternity Ward available to them.
