"Birth"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

In May 2024 following a devastating diagnosis, when we were referred to Maternal Foetal Medical Team we were overwhelmed and confused. Dr Jan and the specialist nurses treated us with so much care and explained our diagnosis and pathway for birth.

We birthed our stillborn daughter, Cora at 22 weeks and 1 day. Maddy, Jade, Brittney were the beautiful midwives that guided us through the 18 hour labour with kindness, calmness and sympathy. We were supported by the perinatal loss team Sonya and Genevieve who showed compassion while they guided us through the aftermath and our grief.

Through a devastating loss of our daughter, we have been shown nothing but kindness and compassion from all midwifes, doctors, nurses, support services staff, pathology, social work and perinatal loss team. The foot prints, ashes and memory box we will treasure for ever. They were also flexible and considerate as we were country clients travelling a distance to Perth.

The work you all do is truly remarkable, and although a sad journey we wouldn't wish to anyone, we were in such excellent hands with the beautiful clinicians at KEMH. Your kindness and care will always be remembered. x

Dear Z123

I’m deeply sorry for your loss of your daughter Cora. It sounds like you were surrounded by an incredibly compassionate and supportive team during such a difficult time. The care and kindness you received must have been a great comfort. It’s heartening to hear that they provided such thoughtful and considerate support, especially given the challenges of traveling from the country.

Your words are a beautiful tribute to your daughter, Cora, and to the remarkable work of the team at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH). Thank you for sharing your experience and honouring those who helped you through this journey. We will be very pleased to pass your kind words on to Dr Jan, Maddy, Jade, Brittney, Sonya and Genevieve.

If you feel comfortable doing so, please do reach out to our Consumer Liaison service by phone on 6458 1444 or email (WNHSCLS@health.wa.gov.au ) so we can be sure to pass your direct feedback onto the wider teams who cared for you. Their kindness has clearly had a positive impact on you, and we would love to be able to share your feedback with all those involved in your care.

Warm regards,

Delaney
