"Patient accommodation and transport issues"

About: Patient Assisted Travel Scheme - WACHS Kimberley

(as the patient),

Was due to fly from Kununurra to Darwin for on going breast cancer surgery and treatment.

Confirmed email from Pats for flights, transport from airport and accommodation.

I waited at the airport for three hours to be picked up by Pats transport and several phone calls trying to get hold of someone.

Then arrived at accommodation to find out it was never booked. It was a weekend and everyone is shut.....!!!

I had to ring around Kununurra, Darwin and Broome to find someone to help.

So sick of this happening or not being sorted out properly. This has been ongoing for a year and they know I come up every three weeks why is it so hard for them to get it right..

The paperwork is always a hassle or something wrong with it. In my experience, you have to chase emails and make sure your booked in for transport and accommodation yourself as at times, it may not be done..

If the patient doesn't have the money which most of the time you don't due to your illness, who then helps you, are left stranded....

I even rang the day before to avoid any of this happening and it still did. So sick of this.

Sick people don't need this constant hassle due to poor communication or, in my opinion, lack of professionals doing their jobs. Been sick is hard enough, but they have no idea and most of the time don't seem to care either. Nice one.

Hi Just a URN,

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion it is appreciated.

PATS does not have a transport service in Darwin, but I have been able to confirm that the PATS office in Kununurra did contact the Darwin Hospital transport service and they confirmed they would pick you up.

I also understand the frustrations of having to fill in paperwork, unfortunately this is a requirement of the programme and to process bookings it is needed.

My name is Donna Cox and I can be contacted on 9194 2334 if you would like to contact me to discuss further.

Regards

Donna
