Since July 2022 I have received the most amazing care and treatment. My diagnosis was flagged straightaway despite me being in denial at the time.
While my symptoms were asymptomatic I was carefully monitored and tested. The medical team are phenomenal and always keep me in the loop.
The cancer outreach nurses, Kate and Alex, were my ray of sunshine with their twice weekly visits for my chemotherapy treatments at home, over a period of 8 months. Little tips were given on my care and they were always so totally accessible.
Then in October2023, I was told treatment needed to commence.
It has been a wild journey involving 6 cycles of chemotherapy, injecting myself with human growth hormones, harvesting stem cells and then a transplant in May 2024. My rebirth day. I stayed in hospital for two and a half weeks. I am in remission and will be monitored together with a chemotherapy maintenance plan over the next 6 months.
The staff in the haematology/oncology ward kept my spirits on a high with not only their confidence and dedication but their kind and understanding way they looked after me. Sarah who fine tunes this ward is amazing, Kate and Hannah my haematologist registrars at the time were so encouraging and reassuring.
Cindy at the front desk kept my husband cheerful and is so bubbly.
The support staff; who cleaned my room, refilled my water jugs, provided meals were so efficient and friendly.
Erin, my dietitian was always so reassuring and made sure that anything could be accommodated with my meal plans.
The level of treatment and care at POWH is gold class.
