"The excellent care and attention that I received"

About: Albany Health Campus / Day Procedure Unit

(as a service user),

My first impression was the welcome staff at the front counter, pointing me in the right direction to sign in.

Next was the nurse checking on my personal details, checking that it was me, and not an imposter.

Please have a seat and the nurse will be along shortly.

With in minutes , along comes Sarrah, team leader, introduced her self, showed me THAT gown, and said give me a call on the green button to help you with that gown, all ok.

She explained every thing that will be going on and kept me up to date, including the wee that was required.

Paper work, questions, explaining next move, to reassure me .

Next anethatist, very pleasant, explanation of the next move, and why.

More paper work, not for me but the nurses.

Next the surgeon said good morning and had a look at his next operation, made a few remarks, all relavent to the procedure, and said that’s ok we will sort that out for you, see you latter

Nurse put on my cap to  keep the hair away from my shaven head, and of I go to the theatre.

Once inside moved over onto the table, an assistant asked me to move further over just in case I moved.

Further kind words of encouragement by the staff, Clive we will be giving you some oxygen, just take deep breathe and exhale, in the mean time I felt a cold sensation on my left hand, I thought this is it now, no turning back, keep breathing the oxygen, next thing I know I was in the recovery ward speaking to a young Irish nurse who lived some time in Liverpool, and had a scouse Irish ascent.

The theatre staff were very professional and very caring, I did not speak to the surgeon at that time as I knew he had his hands full of other things.

The staff in recovery were great and very caring.

Next was the final destination, checking details, asking if I would like something to eat and drink, I even had a choice that was great, ham and salad sandwich with a white coffee, that was very nice as well, that may be due to not eating for 16 hours, but still very pleasant.

My last comments and recollections are that, I was very impressed with the courtesy, professionalism, kindness and thoughtfulness of all of the staff I saw at the Hospital, it put my mind at rest from the front door going in , to the front door going out.

The Hospital Management can consider them selves very fortunate that their staff act the way that I expressed myself.

Well done to you all, but I hope not to see you all again soon, no disrespect.

Kind Regards.

Dear Thank you one and all

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge the exceptional staff here at Albany Health Campus, and in particular, the surgical services team. It’s wonderful to hear that our caring, friendly, and professional staff met your expectations and made your experience as comfortable as possible. Your feedback has been shared with the Campus leadership team so that they can further share it with their staff on the ground.

I can assure you that the Health Campus’s management do consider ourselves very fortunate; our staff demonstrate the WACHS values in the way they go about their jobs every day and it is lovely to see this hi-lighted by your story, so thank you for that opportunity.

We hope you are fully recovered and we are equally keen not to see you again any time soon.

Best wishes

Wendy McKinley | Director Albany Health Campus
