I had a major stroke in May 2024 which caused me to have aphasia and appraxia. I was transferred to the Osborne Park Hospital stroke rehabilitation unit from Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital 3 days later.
I highly commend the attention I received in the Osborne Park Hospital stroke rehabilitation unit. At the start, I felt safe and comfortable although I did not have any speech and was feeling very overwhelmed about my future. I was soon reassured by doctors and clinical staff and knew I was in the right place to promote my stroke recovery.
During my stay I was welcomed by everyone who came to assist me and I immediately felt that I was in good hands. The doctors and staff that attended to me were second to none.
While I was an in-patient I would like to thank the physiotherapist Emma for giving me confidence in my mobility and the OT's who observed and supported me becoming more independent. My speech was assisted by Rose and a young student Caitlin who made me a take home supply of words and phrases that I could use to assist my communications. The OT, Geraldine, was particularly helpful in me gaining confidence and independence following my discharge from Osborne Park to my home along with some speech therapy from Rose and Grace.
Since I returned home 13 days later my ongoing therapy has benefitted me greatly. I have made a good recovery due to the assistance I’ve received. I wish to also thank Deborah, Rebecca and Angela for making my speech journey an ongoing success.
