"Compliments to the medical team at ED and children ward"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department Fiona Stanley Hospital / Neonatology, Paediatrics & Ward 3A

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently on a weekday, I took my toddler son, to the Emergency Department because he was dehydrated and starting to lose consciousness. The triage nurse assessed him promptly and we were seen by a team of nurses and doctors within 30 minutes. The medical team explained their treatment plan to me and started the treatments after my consent. My son started improving around midnight. A pediatrician came to check on him as well and we were advised to stay overnight so the medical team can continue to care for him and monitor his condition. The nurses at the children ward looking after us were attentive and caring. The doctor visited us a couple times and was satisfied with my son’s progress. We were discharged from the hospital on the next day.

This has been a very stressful event for me as a mother who was solo-parenting my son at the time of the ED visit and hospital admission. I could not remember the names of almost all of the medical team, but I felt supported and heard during the whole process. I felt the medical team’s genuine care for my son, and I trust their expertise and skills to help with his recovery.

Thank you very much for looking after us. I really appreciate what you have done for my son. You did an amazing job and I’m very grateful that my son was in your care.

Dear pepperrd58,

Thank you for your lovely Care Opinion post about your experience in our ED and the paediatric ward. I am very sorry that your son was so unwell – but it sounds like you did the right thing bringing him to FSH when you did. As a parent myself I know how stressful it is when our little ones are unwell, so it’s no surprise that you can’t remember our team members’ names.

Thank you for taking the time to share your kind words, and rest assured I will share with all of the appropriate teams and their line managers, with my added thanks. I know that they will appreciate your gratitude.

I hope your son continues to do well.

Warm regards,

Neil Doverty.
