I attended ED expecting to receive some antibiotics for an infection and be sent home, however was quickly admitted, underwent surgery and was discharged after three days.
I have had previous negative experiences in hospitals and this was increasing my anxiety during my stay.
All of the staff involved in my care, from the nurses (Ellie, Sharni, Leah, Mish as well as the theatre nurses whose names I can't remember!), surgeons (Dr C, Dr Anna and the team), anaesthetist (I can't remember his name but it was mentioned he was a non-stop chatter) and pharmacist (Dr G) were all incredibly understanding and never once rushed me to fit into their busy schedules, but allowed them to fit into mine, supporting me and waiting until I was in a calm state. All staff explained things on a level that both myself and my partner could understand, while not making us feel judged or silly for asking certain questions or feeling certain things.
I felt that my feelings and concerns were validated by every staff member I interacted with in a genuine manner and they all attended to me as if I was the only patient they had to look after on their shift.
While no one wants to end up in hospital, I would definitely recommend Broome Hospital as one to stop at if you're in need of some medical attention and are around the area. The high levels of compassion and care I experience from every single staff member I saw was like none other I have ever experienced and I left feeling so grateful for every person I'd had care for me during my stay.
Thank you Broome Hospital and the above mentioned staff (as well as those not mentioned) for all that you did for myself and the others in your care. Your services are invaluable and I will continue singing your praises far and wide!
