"Trying to order medications from the hospital"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Pharmacy

(as a parent/guardian),

My child is on 16 x different medications and has complex care needs.  I try to get scripts from their treating specialists in PCH, but often need to use the PCH Neurology script line to get medication scripts written up and dropped to the pharmacy.

The process of trying to get medication scripts offline like this is getting increasingly more difficult.  This time I am still waiting for a script to be dropped to the PCH pharmacy after 3 weeks and multiple communications (phone calls, and emails with pharmacy, neurology, connect care) - it is so many hours of effort, and a constant stress of whether I will get the critical medication for my child in time.

I feel burnout, frustrated, powerless, unheard, unsupported.

Dear leopardpq64

Thank you for sharing your story regarding your experience at Perth Children’s Hospital.

I am sorry to learn of the stress you have experienced in trying to obtain your child’s medication scripts. I can understand the difficulty that families of children with complex needs experience in navigating this process and acknowledge the impact this situation is having upon you. To ensure that families are better supported and receive scripts in a timely manner, we are reviewing the service model to supply outpatient scripts. We will be consulting with families and carers during this process.

Noting that you have not yet received your script, I would like to follow this up for you. If you are open to this, may I please ask you to contact the Child and Family Liaison Service by email at CAHSFeedback@health.wa.gov.au or by phone on 6456 0032 to provide your child’s details.

I do hope that we hear from you soon.

Yours sincerely

Nicky
