"Birth and after care"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I had the most exceptional birth experience with the staff at bunbury regional hospital. Could not fault them one bit.

The midwives that attended the duration of our birth were very experienced, communicated well with ourselves and amongst other midwives and doctors, accommodated and respected our requests, had impeccable bedside manor, were friendly and relatable and most of all made me feel safe. Unfortunately I cannot remember all of their names but some that come to mind are

Midwives: Melony, Poppy, Sheree, Laura

Doctor: Chloe

I believe every person that attended to me whilst in labour and after care (even to cover lunch breaks) should be commemorated for the amazing work they do and service that my partner, baby and I received.

Midwife Laura stayed after their shift had finished to see the birth through instead of doing a hand over at such a vulnerable time for me. That continuity of care did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Some midwives even visited me in postnatal to check how I was doing the day after the birth which I appreciated so much.

Thank you

Suggested improvement: we had some issues applying the portable CTG monitor so had to wear the fixed one. If these could be upgraded to better quality portable CTG monitors (even water proof) that would improve my experience.

Dear leopardxh46,

Thankyou for taking the time to share your experience on care opinion. I am pleased to read that we were able to provide you with the care, and compassion you deserve. Ensuring open communication, and discussing your needs is of great importance to the Midwifery and Medical team, and the positive impact that this has on a woman's experience is reflected in your story.

I will pass on your kind words to all the staff in the department, especially those that you have mentioned. I know that they will be grateful and humbled by your feedback.

I am sorry that the portable CTG didn't work as well as designed. Technology is a wonderful thing, until it doesn't work. We are continually on the look out for equipment that will improve the patient journey. Unfortunately, at this stage, the equipment we have it the latest model and until the manufacturer makes improvements we are challenged by it's limitations.

Thankyou once again for your praise. I hope you and your family are settling in at home and are doing well. Take care

Katrina
