"Bunbury ED and Childrens Ward"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Bunbury Paediatric Ward Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

Recently my 15yo daughter was sent from another hospital's ED to Bunbury ED, at midnight, with an infection thought to be appendicitis.

The staff at the Bunbury ED were very thorough and professional. My daughter is very needle phobic and they were very kind to her, taking their time and doing all they could to make her feel comfortable about having a cannula in her arm.

After 5 hrs we were transferred up to the children's ward where the lovely nurses and support staff provided us with pillows and blankets and a place to rest while we waited for the surgeon to come and arrange more tests.

The surgeon, Dr Amyn, and his team were very thorough and dealt with my daughter and family in a very kind, professional manner.  They did all the tests required to try and work out what was going on with her health.

It took all day but eventually appendicitis was confirmed and an operation was organised for that night.

This meant my daughter had to share some of her thoughts on some medical practices she did not want, due to her religious beliefs. Both Dr Amyn and the anaesthetist, Dr Angus, were exceptional in their kindness and understanding towards my daughter and her religious views. They were very accepting of her wants and needs, as a patient, and she was very grateful.  We can't thank them enough.

The operation was successful and we spend 2 more nights in the children's ward. The lovely support staff often asked us if we needed tea or coffee and were ready for a quick chat with warm smiles.  They made the waiting time must more bearable. I must say one young lady (who was a student studying her Certificate in support work and was doing her work placement at the children's ward) went out of her way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. She was such a lovely young lady.  I wish I remember her name to thank her.

The nurses in the children's ward were just amazing. Very patient, kind and considerate especially when we were nervous at times and needed some reassurance.

Overall our experience at Bunbury hospital was wonderful.  We'd love to send a big thank you to the staff and Doctors in the ED, Dr Amyn and his team, Dr Angus, the children's ward amazing nurses, support staff and support staff students  You were all wonderful.
