"Buldging disc treated like searching for drugs."

About: Kerang Hospital / Urgent Care Centre

(as the patient),

Im in the processing to moving to this town. Ive been to this hospital twice about a recent diagnosis of a bulging broad, the first time i went in no obs were done, didnt even get through as the doctor didnt even see me, nurse taking incorrect notes.

Second time i lost control of my left leg, feeling like there was anaesthetic just for my leg, debilitating pain. It's one thing for the doctor to not see you, it was heart breaking to see the nurses give each other what I believe is the look "yep sore back, seeking drugs", even when i came with proof, ct scans and report.

I thought nurses and doctors were trained to treat with patience and care not judgement! Even after ticking 2 of the criteria for emergency handed to me by the nurse it was apparently not good enough to be seen. At least when that nurse actually read my report I think they understood my pain was legitimate.

Dear nuthatchmd53,

I would like to express an apology to you regarding your recent interaction with our health service. We continually strive for a better service and will raise the importance of professional, non-judgmental, customer service with the nursing staff and trust that any future interaction would meet your expectations.

KDH is a nurse-led hospital with visiting doctors. Our Urgent Care Centre is staffed by experienced nurses who are highly trained to provide professional and appropriate treatment. Our local GPs are available to be called in for emergencies at the discretion of our senior nursing staff based on a triage system. This is an evidence-based system.

Unfortunately, in emergency departments or urgent care centres, patients may have to wait if there is someone else who presents with a life-threatening condition.

We would always recommend that attending your own GP for ongoing analgesia is the best approach to managing pain, as they are aware of your full medical history. We would encourage your attendance to Urgent Care, Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) or an ED if your pain increases and the GP clinic is not open.

We hope your symptoms have improved and you are feeling better. We are happy to look at your individual case, if you would like specific information, please contact Ksparrow@kdh.org.au.

Thank you for your feedback as it is always appreciated.

Kind regards,

Katrina Sparrow
