I presented at Joondalup Health Campus in extreme pain on the left side of my face recently. It took 11 hours to be seen. Initially when I presented the information screen said the wait was 7 hours. I was given pain relief and I felt like they thought I was just there to get pain relief. After giving me strong pain relief, which had not given me relief, I was offered more very quickly. I asked what time was I given the medication and how long would it take to work? They said I wouldn’t feel the full effects for another 1/2 hour. I said I would wait before taking more. At one point a nurse said to me, it’s hard to get nerve pain under control. I stated that is why I presented, because of the pain.
The ED was freezing cold, I was eventually offered a blanket. There was water dripping through the ceiling into a bucket. There was no access to water to drink. Some people left after a few hours wait. I would have liked to of left but the pain was too much. I recall one patient kicked and smashed one of the glass sliding doors in frustration, another complained after not being seen and waiting for 13 hours.
After 11 hours I was seen by a ED doctor and student doctor, they did tests that came back clear, gave me more pain relief that doesn’t work, wrote me a doctors certificate with some else’s name.
