"Nurse conduct"

About: Collie Hospital

(as the patient),

I live in a remote town out of Collie, and have AF on this night my spouse and I felt it best to call an ambulance service to support me as I was in a high heart rate and not feeling well at all. I was quite anxious the Ambulance volunteers were amazing, took my mind off my circumstances.

This changed once I had arrived at Collie ED as I was brought in the nurse seemed quite annoyed with my presence, they asked in a tone and made me very uneasy if I was in another hospital last month for this same reason. I replied no I was not, although they kept persisting I was in front of the Ambulance volunteers which made me feel very uncomfortable and as if I was lying! They then came and apologized and said sorry that was last year, then made a remark that I needed to quit smoking in what I felt was quite a judgemental way.

Once my spouse arrived I relayed to him what had happened, mind you this nurse was not my nurse but kept coming down to look and seemingly have their say on what was happening with me. This nurse then confront my spouse about who rang the ambulance.

I must say my nurse was a compassionate and caring nurse named Margret, she put me and my husband at such ease and we were able to confront the other nurse, my spouse advocated for me and asked them what was their reasoning for asking us who called the ambulance, they gave what I felt was a rather useless excuse about there is a bigger picture going on behind the scenes?

In the end we were able to speak with them and told them we are blessed to have nurses working at our little hospital and we thank God that they are there. In the end we were able to get through our time there, the nurse eventually came round and spoke with us and brought us a cuppa tea and sandwiches. Future care saw me off to a metropolitan hospital to have ablation surgery. That was quite an exhaustive night on both my spouse and I.  I got a call from the liaison officer and they were able to help me with how I was feeling and how to move forward and what was available to me.
