"My husband's admission to Rockingham Hospital for sepsis"

About: Rockingham General Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My husband developed very concerning symptoms, including not being able to walk, rigors and being delirious. I assumed it was some sort of infection following a procedure he'd had a couple of days previously and took him to emergency at Rockingham Hospital.

He was triaged and admitted immediately with sepsis. The care he received was outstanding. Doctors, nurses and all other staff we encountered were both efficient and caring. Everything that was being done for my husband was clearly explained to me, and I very much felt that both of us were being supported. After my husband had been sufficiently stabilised he was admitted to a ward. I was concerned because he was no longer being as closely monitored as he had been in emergency. The nurse in our ward though, Carissa, provided outstanding care.

I was taken to a counselling room by another nurse to talk through the care my husband was being provided. This nurse too was incredibly supportive and compassionate. After a while on the ward Carissa was concerned that my husband's blood pressure was remaining low. She explained to me that if it didn't go up within half an hour she would call a code. She explained that lots of staff would come into the room and that it would feel overwhelming, but that we may need to do it to provide the best care for my husband. A code was called, and in the process my husband's blood pressure rose and he subsequently stabilised. Carissa provided assurance, compassion and outstanding care in the process of stabilising the effects of sepsis in my husband's body.

Throughout the remaining three days in hospital we continued to be treated with kindness and with an exceptional standard of care. Many, many thanks to the staff at Rockingham Hospital.

Dear soilbz56,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at Rockingham General Hospital (RGH). I am deeply appreciative of your feedback. It is rewarding to hear that the care your husband received was outstanding. Being diagnosed with sepsis can be a daunting experience, but I am glad to hear that you felt your husband was safe in the care of the Emergency Department (ED) and ward staff.

I will ensure your feedback is shared with Carissa, the ED team and ward staff, and thank you once again for your kind words.

Kind regards,

Kath Smith
