"My birthing experience"

About: Leongatha Memorial Hospital

(as the patient),

My usual obstetrician was away on holidays when I was handed over to another doctor who was then away sick the week I was due, I went in recently with contractions and to monitor fetal movement because they had decreased. I was sent home by a relief doctor with not a lot of information.

I then went in the following afternoon as the contractions became more intense and closer together, when I arrived at the hospital they stopped but baby needed to be monitored again as movements and heart rate weren't normal.

The following morning I finally met doctor Elise, she came to me and it was obvious she'd read everything about me and my pregnancy, she could see my stress and pain. She knew I needed a plan in place. I really felt as though she bent over backwards for me to be induced that night. Once that was organised I went home to sleep before coming in again later that night.

An hour before then, I came into labour naturally and I feel that it was because of Elise making me feel heard and at ease. Overall it was very stressful for me, I'd even use the word traumatic because I was worried about my baby and I had a different doctor come in everything and just tell me to go home. If it weren't for Elise I'd feel I'd need to take it higher. This wasn't good enough I was just looked over by the other relief doctors but Elise really measured me.

Dear aquilawf76,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Such wonderful feedback about Dr Elise, she will be very pleased to receive this feedback.

We always expect to provide a high quality of care, therefore it is imperative that relief staff are well oriented to our Service, our values and our standards. I would like to follow up with the relief doctor, to do this I will need a little more information. If you feel comfortable to provide some further details please give me a call on 5667 5664.

Regards

Jenny Dempster
