My recent birth experience at Peel Health Campus was extremely disappointing. I was induced, but the midwife dismissed my pain twice, resulting in me spending my entire labour in a shared room, and not a birthing suite. I had to try to remain quiet as it was overnight and another woman was in the room. Additionally, I was alone with no support persons present my entire labour as it was after hours, so my partner wasn’t allowed to stay. I was only offered mild pain relief options such as heat packs and Panadol, and the most heartbreaking part was that my partner missed the birth of our baby, which is a moment we can never get back!!
I feel the midwife failed to care for me while I was in labour, despite requesting to be examined, showing contraction times on my phone and requesting pain relief due to the severity of the pain. These are all clear signs of active labour, that the midwife seemingly dismissed!
My experience was upsetting, and it is something no patient should have to experience from a trusted health professional.
