"Beautiful water birth of our second baby girl"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Maternity Unit

(as the patient),

I was lucky enough to become a part of the MGP at Karratha and that’s where we were assigned the most amazing midwife’s - Lea and Sheree. From the moment we met I knew I was in the safest and most knowledgeable hands going into our second birth. Our first birth was very traumatic for my husband and i, and this time around we really wanted to do things differently and I was supported every step of the way and reassured that I would have a beautiful birth and it was actually more magical than I ever expected.

We ended up having a water birth and I remember walking into the birthing suite and thinking how beautiful it looked and how I instantly felt safe. Laura was so calm yet so quick to get myself and my husband comfortable before we got into the water. Sheree was right there next to us if we needed her, she reassured me that my body knew what to do and that I could this. I remember having my eyes closed throughout the final transition of birth but I could feel her presence the whole time in the most beautiful way. She softly spoke and asked if I’d like to guide baby onto my chest and I was a little unsure but again she so gently reassured me that I could do it and she was right there if I needed her. It made such a difference having her familiar face in the room compared to someone I had never met before. I can’t thank her enough for helping me birth our baby, it was more magical than I ever imagined. My husband and I love telling our birth story.

Sheree and Lea then continued the care for me and bubs post birth. Lea visited our home twice for checkups and because of the continuity of care there was no need to explain anything as she already knew all the details therefore made the checkups run smoothly and feel very comfortable. Lea always communicated so well with me during my pregnancy and postpartum, she always reassured me if I needed anything she was a phone call away. I wish she could have kept doing our checkups!

I will be forever grateful for the care I received from Sheree, Lea, Laura and the nurses on the ward at Karratha. Thank you so much.

Dear Mumma of 2,

Thank you for sharing your story regarding the birth of your second baby girl at the Karratha Health Campus Maternity Unit, and in particular as a water birth.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby, and I hope you and the new member of your family are happy and doing well, and it is great to hear that you are getting the support you need.

I’m pleased you had the opportunity to participate in the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) which aims to establish and provide a continuity of care relationship between the midwives and the mum. Your story is a great example of how the service makes to ensure a positive, and happy birthing experience.

Again, thank you for sharing your experiences. I will ensure to let the midwifery team know of your positive experience with them.

Warm regards

Matt Wells
