"Emergency patient treatment"

About: Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a friend),

Twice this year I have been to armadale hospital emergency department with my friend, both times they have been in excruciating pain.

The treatment they have received both times has shocked me, the first time they got sent home after a single blood test, despite the worry from their primary GP that there is a high risk of appendicitis. They were dismissed very quickly despite the extreme pain they were in. There seemed to be no care from any of the doctors and no interest in managing or investigating what could be causing a 9/10 pain.

Second time around my friend was dismissed even quicker, this time around for severe rib/back pain. They were put in a category 5 despite explaining that they couldn't walk, talk or breathe without excruciating pain. I expect better from an emergency department, I expect that patients don't get dismissed and sent home when they're in so much pain they can't breathe or move.

A hospital emergency department is where you're supposed to go when you're in that much pain, when you don't know what else to do. But how can one call themselves a hospital if, in my experience, they won't even bother to care and treat the patients that are coming in practically begging for help? Do better.

Dear Anonymousssss

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback about your experiences at the Armadale Kalamunda Group Emergency Department.

It is so kind of you to have bought your friend in for care twice this year, particularly given the excruciating pain you have noted they have been in.

Neither of you should have felt dismissed by any of our clinicians at any time during these visits, and I am truly sorry about this.

I agree with you that we must do better.

Therefore, I would really appreciate the opportunity to investigate matters further.
