"Clinic not having a point of care assessment tool up and running for IBD Intestinal Ultrasound"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Allied Health

(as a service user),

I was working with my IBD Dietitian who recommended due to some of my IBD/IBS symptoms I should have had an intestinal ultra sound as a point of care assessment and to help with improving my treatment and diet.

On enquiring about the US to SCGH IBD Nurse they stated that this service is not yet up and running at the hospital and it would depend on if I met the conditions for this service.  So nothing has been actioned and they said you could always ask your GP - even although SCGH IBD are my Specialists and IBD carers.

As I understand it, other WA/Australian hospitals have this service up and running. Why do SCGH IBD patients need to put up with what I believe is a lesser service?

Dear neptunegb59,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your concerns about Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital not having an intestinal ultrasound as a point of care assessment tool for IBD patients.

I’m delighted to announce that in June we introduced an intestinal ultrasound to our service. This will now be accessible to our patients based on clinical needs and will make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals living with IBD.

Once again thanks for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Kind regards,

Jodi Graham
