What recovery looks like for me with Lives Lived Well.

I’m a bloke in his 50s, who for the best part of the last 40 years of my life has been dependent on drugs or booze. At the age of 35 I stop taking drugs and commenced binge drinking, getting wipe out every weekend until 8 years ago when this transitioned to drinking daily.

In 2017 I started my journey with LLW. I would see an AOD counsellor on a regular basis for a few months. I went back to drinking because I didn’t do what my counsellor suggested. And I wasn’t ready to give it a red-hot go!

Then a few years ago I put myself into Lives Lived Well rehab Wunya. My experience was good. The team at Wunya started me once again on a life of sobriety. And my journey has many twists and turns and for me it would mean returning to Wunya LLW for a third time. Before I returned this year, I found myself in a place where I didn’t know how I was going to get help again. I had only one number left in my phone from my previous time with LLW. I rang that number, and it was answered by the support worker from Wunya. He listened to me and was able to help me find my way back to Wunya again. Thank you, Mick.

I am now 4 months into my recovery, I feel stronger and present in my recovery, Wunya’ s support staff and counsellors are amazing, they have always been there to help me. I learnt breathing, meditation, and staying in the present. This is the foundation of my recovery, and I practice these techniques daily. I am forever grateful that LLW have never turned me away after several attempts of sobriety.

Thank you.

Dear tigersn65,

Thank you for sharing your story. It often takes more than one attempt in treatment to gain abstinence and an understanding of your triggers and circumstances - so well done for finding a number and making contact. It takes a lot of courage and you have done that.

It's also great to read that Wunya has been helpful and kept taking you back. Always reach out if you need support - there is no one-stop-shop to achieve what you are achieving. Life changes and challenges are put in front of you and you will have good days, better days and some days which aren't so good. Always reach out when you're having those days.

Well done, keep up your abstinence and know that support is only a phone call away.

Regards,

Lara
