I was admitted to Charlie's recently. I was being treated for Septic Arthritis. I had a serious bout of delerium from the infection combined with a serious bout of halucinations. This caused me to believe that I was in a fake hospital after being kidnapped by a crime ring and that I needed to break out of the place. I tore the catheta out and the canula and got out of bed stark naked in the open area of the ward, wielding the catheta and threatening anyone who came near me. The staff were horrified and frightend until i was taken into hand by two very capable young men who returned me to my bed where I was suitably restrained.
My medication was changed and over the next several days, the halucinations subsided and I became aware of what was really going on around me. From then on, I noticed how beautifully the staff were caring for and looking after me. I cannot find the words to describe how good the care and attention was for the rest of my stay. I met successive nurses and other staff as their shifts changed, and each and every one of them were so respectful and caring towards me I thought I was in a six star resort. The more aware of my surroundings I became the more I noticed the high level of care that I was receiving. In retrospect, I become quite overcome with emotion when I recall the high quality staff who cared for me and the extremely high quality care they gave to me during my stay.
As a Western Australian we should all (as i am) be extremely proud of the management and staff and consulting specilists and other medical practitioners that make up the staffing complement at Charlie's, not to mention the very high level of maintenance and provision of equipment that exists there.
I am so thankful that I was sent to Charlie's for my treatment and I will recommend to all and everyone that I speak to about medical services that they try to get into Charlie's for their treatment.
I really am overwhelmed by my fabulous experience at Charlie's and I will remain ever appreciative of the fabulous care I received while I was confined to that bed.
Now, I must comment on the follow up care and attention that I have received from Charlie's HomeLink outpatient treatment centre. Unbelieveblly good are the words that come to mind when I think of the facilities, staff and attending specialists that have continued to look after me while I am recovering at home. The high degree of top class coordination between HomeLink and Silver Chain and Rehabilitation in the Home has meant that there has never been a glitch in any aspect of the care I am receiving at HomeLink and at home.
I would like to make special personal mention of each and every staff member that I came into contact with throughout this process, but unfortunately I did not have the foresight to record each of their names for this purpose. Nevertheless they all deserve the same level of accolades as Dr Michelle. My sister and I found Michelle to be an absolute pleasure to deal with at HomeLink. Michelle was attentive and engaging and provided the very best advice and guidance I needed to get through this process and achieve the most acceptable level of pain control during my recovery time here at home.
Needless to say, I will be eternally grateful to Michelle and all the staff I came into contact with during this precarious time for me. Thank you, Team. Keep up the good work as you are all doing a wonderful job.
