Treated rudely by the ophthalmologist
When we were in recently for examination of my 20 month old child's eyes. We have had no concerns at about their vision, however they had a haemangioma growing near their left eye when they were a baby, so we were referred to them for examination, and went for a follow up recently.
I felt the doctor had no empathy and did not explain anything other than that one of my child's eyes may end up turning inward and that they have a ‘high prescription’. They did not explain what this meant, and I felt was very blunt. We were obviously quite confused as our child has no issue seeing even small objects in the sky, so we have just left more confused and concerned.
My spouse also took a photo of me and my child in the room (the doctor was not in the photograph) and I recall the doctor was very rude, seemingly snapping at my spouse twice not to take photos and to delete them as it is ‘illegal’ to take photos in hospitals?
All round we just had a really horrible experience and now we are worried about our child's eyes even though we previously had no reason to feel concerned. I felt the doctor explained nothing, and did not offer any reasoning for as to why they would be able to see everything in such great detail with such a a ‘high prescription.’ We will of course get our toddler glasses if they need them but this was just a very confusing and stressful experience, and so we will be getting a second opinion elsewhere. It is such a shame, as we have previously had very pleasant experiences through the John Hunter hospital.
